Overview - Kalmatia Sangam Himalaya Resort

Kalmatia Sangam Himalaya Resort (KaSa), set 7 kms above Almora and 10 kms from Binsar Sanctuary in the Kumaon hills (Uttaranchal), offers one of the best accommodations in Uttarakhand, as well as a charming restaurant serving excellent and varied cuisine.

Kalmatia Sangam Himalaya Resort in Almora is a Boutique Resort nestled in the heart of the Kumaon hills in Almora in Uttaranchal. In the year 1867, a British Captain ES Jackson revealed this place of beauty and raised a house in the British colonial style. At the end of the century the estate was purchased by Edward Thomas Chowdhry, the District Commissioner of Kumaon. These days the estate and resort are presided over by his grand daughter Geeta Reeb.

About Kumaon & Almora

Kumaon lies at the feet of the tallest Indian mountains, Nanda Devi 7816m, Kamet 7756m, Chowkhamba 7140m, Trishul 7120m, Mrigthuni 6855m, Nanda Kot 6860m and Panch Chuli 6903m, making it the most attractive mountain destination in all Indian Himalaya, and closest to reach from Delhi.

Kumaon is situated between Garhwal to the west and Nepal to the east, offering extensive possibilities of connecting itineraries, either towards Western Nepal and its national parks or Garhwals holy places.

Kumaon towered over by the most beautiful mountains of the Indian Himalaya offers a totally natural environment where forests and wildlife have still to unfold their mysteries. Being one of the oldest pilgrim routes to holy Mount Kailash and a major trade link to Tibet, local religious customs and ancient traditions are still alive here. Kumaon has been a confluence where cultures have blended together, leaving behind an infinity of architctural and archeological wonders: Jageshwar temples, Katarmal Sun temple (one of few in India after Konarak), prehistoric rock art, charming local villages set amongst green terraces and many more secrets to discover.

Almora has been the first British hill station established in 1815. Till today we still have an interesting blend of British colonial and Kumaoni architecture. This can be seen in the various estates in the area, and several buildings in Almora town.
